Ivory Wave Release ‘Separate Beat’

This week we take a look at Birmingham five-piece Ivory Wave and their latest release titled ‘Separate Beat‘.
Ivory Wave consists of five members, George Johnson (vocals), Connor McMinn (lead guitar), Luke Morris (bass), Seb Baldwin (drums) and Rob Clarke (synth). The band can usually be found rocking the roof off of various locations around the country, with the release of ‘Separate Beat’ bringing further support for their already growing fanbase. The traction the band have been building recently may have been realised in early June when their show at Record Junkies in Sheffield was covered by the BBC as part of BBC Music Day 2017.

Ivory Wave have noted a few of their influences in a recent Spotify playlist as being Kasabian, Happy Monday’s and Gorillaz amongst othersIt is easy to draw comparisons between the various levels of nostalgia and vibes throughout ‘Separate Beat’ as similar characteristics can be heard throughout Gorillaz track ‘19-2000 Soulchild Remix‘. Alternatively, Kasabian’sPut Your Life On It‘ expresses a personal subject matter which is sure to have helped lead singer George Johnson pen the lyrics to ‘Separate Beat’. The words were penned on a train that was Birmingham bound from London, with George inspired by the people, towns and cities on the 90-minute journey with Johnson noting that ‘people can feel small in a big city’.
It should come as no surprise that the track sounds precise and clean with the safe hands of Matt Terry (Ocean Colour Scene, The Enemy) at the helm. The instrumentation is brilliant, the depth and clarity of the mix is something that anyone will notice as being superb, and the arrangement manages to show off the various elements that have been masterfully included throughout.
This track would not be out of place on a playlist to kickstart your summer with its fresh, upbeat and intoxicating vibes. It has a feeling that echoes the youth of the band and easily connects to any person who listens.
We consider this track as radio-ready as any song out at the moment. You’ll be sure to hear more about Ivory Wave in the future, and rightly so.
