CANSHAKER PI BRING A FRESH POST-PUNK TWIST ON NEW SINGLE ‘PRESSURE FROM ABOVE’

Canshaker Pi are an Amsterdam quintet heading for big things. They released an eponymous debut album in 2016 produced by Pavement’s Stephen Malkmus, an off kilter post punk record that also took influence from noise rock. This helped them become one of the Netherlands most exciting and hardworking bands, playing 27 shows in 15 countries this autumn. They are also building a reputation in the UK through support slots for The Cribs in London and Leeds. Earlier this month, they released a new song, ‘Pressure From Above’ as part of the RIP Records Introducing series. It shows why they’re so highly regarded in four fast catchy minutes.

What helps Canshaker Pi stand out is their songwriting, demonstrated superbly on this track. It boasts a dynamic infectious energy; the distorted lead guitar twisting its way around your head, and the slacker-style vocals matching superbly alongside it. It’s a nod to the past while feeling fresh and vibrant, making for an enjoyable listen and leaving you hungry for more.
‘Pressure From Above’ is out on December 15th and can be listened to here.
