Wicked Splinters
Wicked Splinters, who I recently saw playing the Gunners with Third Party Incidents, are a band that define their sound as “Melodic folk, Blues and Grunge.” Influenced by bands as diverse as Nirvana and Nick Drake, it’s easy to see why they make music for fans across multiple genres.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
“The headline choice for us, this year, is British Sea Power, but rather than spend time talking about all the bigger acts, we’re much more excited about seeing performers further down the bill. In particular, one of our personal favourites… the Katalina Kicks! A couple of us saw them at a show in Notting Hill recently and they were awesome! Their song “We Don’t Care” is as good as any indie/punk track you’ll hear on the radio. Also, for nostalgic reasons, we’ll probably check out Echobelly too as Sonya Madan’s vocals are quite exquisite.”
Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
“We’re really gutted about having to miss seeing Twin Atlantic play as their set clashes with our own.”
Who would you like to see at next year’s festival?
“Alex Ohm (powerful voice and a quality songwriter), D’Haze (think Portishead with some ridiculously epic vocals from Hazel) and Reef (their new album, Revelation, is brilliant).”
How would you sell Camden Rocks to anyone thinking of attending this year’s event?
“Remember the stories about Camden in the 90s? About a wild and unfettered music scene that seems impossible in the modern era. Well, Camden Rocks makes all of that true again… just for a day!”
Sisteray
Sisteray are “one of those bands” that everyone knows are destined for stardom! They grew to prominence through their love of arranging spontaneous “Pop-up guerrilla gigs” and through playing epic shows at their own self-curated club night called “Welcome to the Monkey House.” To give you some perspective on the expectation they’re carrying their shoulders, their career trajectory is expected to follow that of Oasis and the Arctic Monkeys.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
“This year, we’re set on catching Cavalcade, who are on about an hour after our set, because they’re a great band who’ve been really supportive towards us. Trust us, this is extremely rare in today’s music scene! Even though they’re just starting out, they’ve already created a significant buzz about themselves in London.
“Also, we want to catch Sophie and the Giants (after they impressed everyone at a Trampoline’s gig at the Scala), Blackwaters (amazing live show and non-stop energy), Berries (authentic rock ‘n’ roll attitude from a band going up against big-name headliners) and Public Image Ltd for obvious reasons.”
Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
“Despite what we said earlier, we are a little torn between Cavalcade and Towers of London. Now, none of us will pretend to have been big fans of TOL growing up, but Donny used to watch us play in Portsmouth so we want to return the favour. Not that he needs us, of course! Other than this one decision, we have been really lucky in that everything has fallen into place for us.”
Who would you like to see at next year’s festival?
“Next year, we would love to see Aerial Salad, Clockworks, Bless and anyone else we have played with that have shown us the support that these guys have. Frankly, we would love to curate a stage… the SISTERAY stage!!! If the powers that be are reading this…. talk to us!”
How would you sell Camden Rocks to anyone thinking of attending this year’s event?
“Camden Rocks is all about grassroots music! Since we started working with them, they’ve done nothing but great things. So, if you are worried about spending your money on a ticket, know that they always throw in some hefty headliners to make it worth your while.”
Pet Needs
Pet Needs, a “modern punk band” from Colchester, are playing the festival a couple of months after releasing two E.P’s called As Kites Fly By Pythons and Everything But Your Balance. Interestingly, they’ve been picked to share the DM Boot room stage with acts like the Rifles, and Glossi who were one of the bands who answered our questions for this preview.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
“There’s so many to choose from! I’m (Johnny, singer) really looking forward to PIL (an enigmatic band that always subjects you to an all-encompassing experience you’ll lose yourself within), Blood Red Shoes (they make a lot of noise for a two-piece band!), Asylums (fellow Essex boys who smash it out the park every time!) and Longy (writes timeless songs that are performed with a gorgeous voice).”
Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
“Yes! Sonic Boom Six’s ‘Ruff Guide to Genre Terrorism’ was the soundtrack, for one of us, to their first year at Uni, but alas, we are on at the same time! “
Who would you like to see at next year’s festival?
Gaffa Tape Sandy (perform pop songs like they’re in a hardcore band), Rad Pitt (massive riffs and a no-compromise attitude), KULK (Grunge duo who throw themselves about with complete conviction) and the one and only one Dingus Khan.”
How would you sell Camden Rocks to anyone thinking of attending this year’s event?
“Fast music, cold beer, and proper toilets.”
Ducking Punches
Norwich’s finest, Ducking Punches, are veterans of the live music scene with over a thousand shows already under the belt. The group, signed to Xtra Mile Recordings, claim their songs are stories that weave around issues of love/death, friendship and mental illness. If you’re curious to find out if this is true, you can buy their album Fizzy Brain from all the usual outlets.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
“Freeze The Atlantic! I’ve loved them for a long time because they’re an incredible band who sound very intricate live.”

Duke of Wolves
Duke of Wolves are a band who say they’re “Tired of building walls and keeping out aggressive souls.” They formed in London, just over two years ago, with the intention of using their own melodic style to challenge the perception of how an alt-rock act should sound.
Are you a part of their wolfpack?
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
“Us! We’re looking forward to blowing the roof off the Crescent at 4.30! Also, Dead! (a great band with some awesome riffs), Rival Karma, Sisteray (who are playing just after us) and Maximo Park! There are tonnes of bands to see!”
Who would you like to see at next year’s festival?
“Tigercub, Honey Lung, Moriarty, Swedish Death Candy… the list is endless!”
How would you sell Camden Rocks to anyone thinking of attending this year’s event?
“It’s the perfect way to regain faith in new music and music in general.”
Lucie Barat
Lucie Barat, who admits to an obsession with anything Patti Smith, is someone who wants to live on the open road so she can perform in city after city for the pleasure of indulging in her craft. I’m sure we all have dreams of having that kind of freedom…”
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
“Sophie & The Giants (for the big voice, slick arrangements and satisfying hooks), Sisteray (for a blast of high energy, politically awake punk), Blackwaters (for their loud and energetic showmanship).”
Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
“I haven’t checked the schedule, yet, but I know I’d like to catch Falseheads, Longy & the Gospel Trash, Asylums, Eliza and the Bear, and Riskee & the Ridule.”
Who would you like to see at next year’s festival?
I would love to see Himalayas next year as they’re a lovely bunch of lads who’ve worked really hard this year. If pushed, I’d class their sound as reminiscent of the Arctic Monkeys with a dash of Queens of the Stoneage.”
How would you sell Camden Rocks to anyone thinking of attending this year’s event?
If you’ve ever contemplated ambling around Camden, on a summer’s day, this festival is when you should do it! I’ll be there… with a Falafel wrap in one hand and a Hells in the other.”
Arcane Militia
Arcane Militia has made an interesting statement on their bio that I just had to share with the readers of this blog. Have any of you ever heard of the term “Aggressive Love Metal?” I haven’t! Incredibly, this is how they define their sound to their followers on social media. What do you think? The unique “genre” term might get a few of you to check them out, no?
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
“SiKth (the intricacy of what they do never fails to impress us as they’re a phenomenal live band) and Hacktivist (merge seriously heavy metal with hip hop for a sound which should be jarring but isn’t).”
Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
“We’re gonna be cutting it pretty fine, because of our own stage time, but we are hoping to get ourselves over to see SiKth.”
Who would you like to see at next year’s festival?
“Hopefully, we’ll see Skindred or Pitchshifter play.”
How would you sell Camden Rocks to anyone thinking of attending this year’s event?
“The last few years, there have been some great festivals on in London. This has been good for us as we’re used to travelling great distances for events of this magnitude. The fact there’s so many diverse acts performing really helps to sell this festival to a wider audience.”
Miss Vincent
Miss Vincent, the band behind an EP called Somewhere Else which Kerrang magazine described as being “Darkly seductive”, promise to debut some new songs at the festival on Saturday which should please their fans who had to wait until March for their first gig of 2018.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
“There are so many great bands playing… just like every year! The ones we’re most excited about are Screech Bats, Inklings, Dead!, Drones, Press to Meco, Ducking Punches and the Ramonas. I could go on forever, though!”
Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
As there are 200 bands playing throughout the day, we’re never going to be able to see everyone. I think, as they’re on early, we’re in particular danger of missing Drones and the Ramonas. I also think Dead! might be on really late so we might miss out on them, too. The aim is to see everyone we can!”
Who would you like to see at next year’s festival?
“I think this year’s line-up is really, really strong. I can see a lot of underground bands on the bill, which is encouraging, but there’s always room for more great talent to come through. That in mind, I’d love to see acts like Scarecrow Boat, Death By Shotgun and Best of Enemies get a chance in 2019.”
How would you sell Camden Rocks to anyone thinking of attending this year’s event?
“I think the Festival sells itself! 200 bands taking over Camden Town, with every taste on the spectrum of rock ‘n’ roll catered for, crammed into every bit of available space… it’s an organisational feat! Most of all, though, it’s a day where you can immerse yourself in the best music the UK has to offer. “
Freeze the Atlantic
Freeze the Atlantic, who have released three albums since forming in 2009, have an interesting history with many members of the band leaving over the years. Not only have a couple of bassists come and gone, but they’ve also gone through a number of frontmen. Now, though, they have a settled line-up and are only looking towards a brighter future.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
“Bands like Brigade and Vex Red, who were friends with, but one of the best things about Camden Rocks is stumbling on some great acts you’ve never heard of before. Also, if we get the chance, we’re particularly interested in checking out the new version of Mallory Knox.”
Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
“I really wanted to see Sikth (who are ridiculous live), but we’ll be busy elsewhere.”
Who would you like to see at next year’s festival?
The band was really sad to see (our friends) Raging Speedhorn have to pull out. They need to be back next year… for certain! They crush it wherever they play.”
How would you sell Camden Rocks to anyone thinking of attending this year’s event?
“One of the main things we’ve always loved about Camden Rocks is the awesome vibe you get from being there while it’s taking place. You can stroll down the high street and hear music literally coming from everywhere!!!”
The Ramonas
(The Ramonas. Photo credit, The Ramonas Facebook page)
The Ramonas are an all-female Ramones tribute act that started in 2004, with multiple line-up changes over the years, who have started playing their own original material, alongside old punk covers, since 2016.

How would you sell Camden Rocks to anyone thinking of attending this year’s event?
Victoria: “There are so many good bands to see in one day! Also… everyone loves Camden so you can’t miss it!”
Berries
Berries are an all-girl rock trio who are making waves in the music industry through repeated exposure on stations like 6 Music and Radio X. Despite this, the band remains unsigned. For me, this is a travesty because I’ve yet to see them do a bad show. Hopefully, someday soon, they’ll get the record deal their talent deserves.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
There are always so many amazing acts to choose from! Sisteray, Deadset Dream, Rews and Saint Agnes are high on our list! Screech Bats (I’ve never seen them before, but I absolutely love Lexi’s other band, The Franklys, so I’m expecting big things) Katalina Kicks, Bryde, Asylums (blew us away last year so it would be great to catch them again) False Heads (who we’ve played with a few times recently) and Blood Red Shoes. The three of us just want to see as many acts as we possibly can!”
Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
“There are a few clashes, with the bands we mentioned above, so we may have to sprint from venue to venue to catch as much of each of them as we can!”

The Amorettes, who are friends with fellow performers Tequila Mockingbyrd, are a hard Rock band signed to Off Yer Rocker Recordings. The Scots, who are based in Edinburgh, were called a “breath of fresh air” within the rock ‘n’ roll scene by one of their fans after appearing in Classic Rock Magazine.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
There are so many! It’ll be good to see our pals in Massive Wagons (great live band) and we also want to check out Rews (two girls with just a guitar and drums) and Raging Speedhorn.”
Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
“The Asylums toured with us a few years ago so we’re hoping we don’t clash!”
Who would you like to see at next year’s festival?
“Danko Jones, who we toured with in 2015, because they really know how to work a crowd.”
How would you sell Camden Rocks to anyone thinking of attending this year’s event?
“200 bands on one street… it’s a great day!”
DOOMSDAY OUTLAW
OUT OF THE PRIMORDIAL OOZE … come DOOMSDAY OUTLAW!! Now, this is how you introduce a band in a bio. That’s evolution, right?! Man was descended from a five-piece rock band from Derby.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
Ryan Hamilton and the Traitors! We’ve just come off the road with Jizzy Pearl and the drummer in his band also plays for them so we’re gonna check them out. Also… Massive Wagons! They always put on a show.”
Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
“There are a few that I would have liked to see, like label-mates Dirty Thrills, but they clash with our show.”

There are so many great bands out there! Off the top of my head, I’d say Aaron Buchanan and the Cult Classics, Steal the City and Jizzy Pearl.”

“Hundreds of bands in venues that serve great food and beer… dive in and get your fill until you’re fit to pop!”
EMP!RE

Hailing from the outskirts of East London, the trio has worked towards the innards of the punk-rock limelight. Make sure the trio are on your list of bands to see!
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
“I know its cliché, but Public Image Limited was a huge influence over us. Johnny Rotten just didn’t care what anyone thought of him! He was trying to out Jimmy Saville in the late 70s when all the other cowards were covering for him! Absolute legend. “
“Also, British Sea Power, Sophie and the Giants (heard lots of good things about them), Blackwaters and Hands off Gretel.”
Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
“I honestly have no idea! Things are normally so hectic, right up until you play, that it’s always difficult to work out who you want to see. The queue for the main act, PIL, is bound to be absolutely massive, but I need to see them.”

Colt48
Colt48, originating from London and formed in 2017, the band have gone on a swift rise to end up amongst their fellow artist for today’s Camden Rocks Festival. An achievement which is no doubt helped by the fact that they have, as described on their Facebook “Big riffs, Big drums, Bigger choruses”.

Adam: “That’s an incredibly hard question as there are so many great bands on this year! A lot of our friends are on the bill (Crazy Town and Massive Wagons) plus there’s Death Remains and The Fallen State who are both just absolutely amazing at what they do! Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
Matt: “Sadly, we’ll be playing at the same time as our buddies in Death Remains, but we know they’ll absolutely slay it! They’re a killer live act! As we’ve known them for a long time, I think they’ll forgive us for not seeing them this year!”

“The best area in London, opening its doors to some of the coolest bands around. All for dirt cheap. It’s great!”
Michael Welch
Michael Welch is a Reading-based live music lover, but that doesn’t stop him regularly travelling to London for shows. Unlike the Gig Slut, who has the same kind appetitive for life, he stays in one venue. This man may be a lot older than the bands he goes to see, but his energy and enthusiasm proves age ‘aint nothing but a number.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Camden Rocks festival on Saturday?
“Hands Off Gretel are a band I first found at Camden Rocks, 2 years ago, purely by accident. I didn’t have time to get to the next venue I had intended to go to so I just went across the road to see who was on. I was totally blown away by them! So much so that I’ve now seen them over 50 times! Lauren Tate is incredibly talented, as an individual, but the band, as a unit, always puts in a performance that’s so full of energy it’s impossible not to get caught up in it.
“HVMM are another act I can’t get enough of. Their dark, moody sound has a unique and intriguing tone to it which means there is no-one else quite like them. Andy Teece, the lead vocalist, is, in my opinion, one of the best frontmen you could wish to see.
“I wouldn’t miss either of these bands for anyone else…no matter who they clash with!”
Is there any band you want to see that you’ll be forced to miss this year?
“Sadly, there’s quite a few! The main band I’d really like to see, that I will have to miss, is Rews. They’re fantastic, but they clash with HVMM. As I’ve already said, I am not missing them for anyone.”

“I love the diversity of Camden Rocks Festival as there really is something for everyone. I’ve found there’s always a really good vibe about the event with people, from all walks of life, just out having a fabulous time. All of us in search of our next favourite band that we didn’t even know were out there.”
