Track Review: Secret // Alex Robertson
Since picking up a guitar for the first time at age 14, Alex Robertson discovered an overwhelming passion for music. Influenced by personal experiences, the young artist uses tunes as a catharsis through which he shares his tales with engaging lyrics and harmonious melodies. Marked by his diversity and eclecticism, Alex is gaining a reputation for an enthusiastic sound by a loyal following. Following his well-received debut single ‘Cast Aside’, Alex adds ‘Secret’ to his repertoire.
Noted for using a spontaneous songwriting style, Alex Robertson’s music is a strong representation of his personality. Pouring his heart and soul into his music, Alex’s sound oozes innovativeness blending various genres into his tracks ranging from rock and metal to folk. This eclecticism can be manic at times, but it is the individuality of the songs that prompts a “controlled frenzy”.
“I know my music isn’t for everyone, but what music is? My songs are very personal and a lot of them quite sad which isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but they’re true and honest to me and that’s what’s important.” – Alex Robertson
So, now onto ‘Secret’. Finding the balance between soulful R&B, alternative rock and moving folk, Alex Robertson’s ballad is melancholic and intimate. A reflective single touching on issues of inner conflict, relationships, confusion and anxiety, ‘Secret’ shows both a wistful innocence with a depth of content. The warming melody has a soothing sound; however, it is the incorporation of profoundly passionate vocals that enhances a soul-stirring sentimentality. Beautiful in its simplicity, ‘Secret’ will linger long after the song stops playing.
