Track Review: Ben Kidson // Mind Made Up

An entire band unto himself, multi-instrumentalist Ben Kidson combines grungy guitars with RnB synths, hip-hop drums and enticing pop vocals. Receiving critical acclaim for his previous work, this UK-based singer-songwriter has been featured by Born Music Online, The Other Side Reviews, ur mum and BBC Introducing. Following the well-received ‘(When I ) Runaway’, Ben releases his lo-fi single ‘Mind Made Up’.

Describing his music as “punk-pop and everything pink”, ‘Mind Made Up’ is a combination of synths, strong pop vocals and a twinge of raw grunge guitar flowing through the melody. Written as a ballad to lament missed opportunities, the track has a painful genuineness to it that eats at one’s heart. However, a juxtaposition of sorrowful lyrics, a soothing sound and Ben’s warm lyrics enhances the poignancy of this bittersweet single.

Side note: Ben’s latest single has an accompanying official music video shot by the award-winning cinematographer Miguel Carmenes and direct by indie filmmaker Oh Neve. Check it out below!
