Track Review: Chay Snowdon // Tough Guys Die First

If you have not heard of UK indie-rock band Chay Snowdon before now, then what have you been doing with your life? No need to panic, though, you’re learning about them now.

Since their formation in 2017/2018, this Plymouth-based foursome has built a reputation for energetic, unique and engaging music along with a loyal following. Noted as being highly original and dedicated to their art, Chay Snowdon (vocals and rhythm guitar), George Roach (bass), Jack Hawkins (lead guitar) and Luke Westwood (drums) have received press coverage from the UK to Germany and even Argentina! The latest addition to their repertoire is ‘Tough Guys Die First’.

Having spent many years in the Almeria province of Southern Spain – a hotspot for Spaghetti Westerns – Chay developed a love for those Clint Eastwood-esque films and was fascinated by the stereotypical bad guys. ‘Tough Guys Die First’ looks at the “bad guy” in these films, their vulnerability and tenacity even when they know they’ll face their end at the hands of Clint Eastwood.

The follow-up to the well-received ‘What The Kids Want’ (featured on BB 6 Music and Planet Rock Radio), ‘Tough Guys Die First’ is a continuation of Chay Snowdon’s rock and roll meets indie-rock sound. Pounding drums accompany dynamic guitar riffs with catchy hooks and verses. Add Chay’s unmistakable vocals and you have a punchy, high-paced tribute to all the Spaghetti Western villians.

Side note: ‘Tough Guys Die First’ is taken from the group’s upcoming debut EP Are You Sitting Comfortably?
