Track Review: Cold Together // Presley Duyck
Hailing from Dallas, Texas, singer-songwriter Presley Duyck has been making music since kindergarten. In fact, she attempted to form a band at that young age called The Everyday Heartbreakers. The only problem was that none of her kindergarten friends knew how to play instruments. This didn’t stop Presley from embracing the world of music. Influenced by classic rock and folk, the 20-something musician has been likened to the iconic singer Stevie Nicks. The latest addition to her well-received discography is the single ‘Cold Together’.
Featured on The Other Side Reviews, FV Music Blog, Rock Era Magazine, Sinusoidal Music and Less Than 1000 Followers, Presley Duyck has received critical acclaim from across the globe. In her new single ‘Cold Together’ she enchants listeners with a smooth, flowing melody. Following her track ‘Juliet’, ‘Cold Together’ melds into the kaleidoscopic soundscape with an intimate folk meets pop style. What I love about Presley’s music is her ability to add a fresh, contemporary quality to old-school sounds.
As with ‘Juliet’, ‘Cold Together’ showcases Presley’s Fleetwood Mac-inspired melodies with a Stevie Nicks meets Lana Del Rey vocals. I should mention that while I make these comparisons, the US-based artist has a sound that is distinctive and incomparable to many newer singers. While the melodic arrangement and dulcet vocals can send you adrift on a glistening lake of sound, the intimate lyricism really adds depth to the track.
Written as a tribute to one of her friends who was dealing with addiction, the song is filled with sincerity and compassion. Upbeat and toe-tapping, it has an uplifting feel reminding “…people that we don’t have to fight our battles alone.” It is the light at the end of the tunnel highlighting how people can help each other and support makes the battle easier.
