Track Review: Cover Me // Maria Pellicano

With a strong passion for music, Australia-based singer-songwriter Maria Pellicano has not only inspired others as a singing teacher but touches an audience’s souls with her own material. Using her beautiful voice and engaging melodies, this songstress has a reputation for heartfelt sounds. Featured in notable blogs like FV Music Blog, Music of the Future, Roadie Music, The Other Side Reviews and various Australian radio stations, Maria is turning heads on an international scale. The latest addition to her well-received discography is the single ‘Cover Me’.

In her recent EP Reminiscing In Italian, Maria Pellicano shows a prowess for covering some of the most beautiful Italian songs. However, it is her original material that we want to blast through our speakers. Produced by Pivotal Music’s Joshua Hennessy, ‘Cover Me’ follows the well-received track ‘Forever and Ever’. Retaining the heartfelt vibes that come with Maria’s music, ‘Cover Me’ sends shivers down your spine with its exquisite arrangement. An acoustic-inspired song, she shows how simplistic approaches can offer a kaleidoscopic effect.

Penned during the Covid-19 lockdowns, ‘Cover Me’ is devoted to the feelings of isolation, fear, frustration and anxiety we all feel in this uncertain time. Yet, while the track certainly encapsulates the negative emotions associated with lockdown, there is also a sense of empowerment and optimism. Maria explains that composing ‘Cover Me’ “was an imagination process of looking at what I had and wanting more. Wanting to believe that my back was not against the wall…realising that the wall was not really there and that I could go beyond that wall that I was feeling.”

Reflective, introspective and filled with sincerity, ‘Cover Me’ highlights that light at the end of the tunnel. I can’t wait for more from this talented artist, for what she does is true artistry.
