Track Review: Til The Ocean Meets The Shore // Karen Harding

A natural storyteller, singer-songwriter Karen Harding has a way of expressing her emotions, opinions and experiences through poetic song. Unafraid to touch on all areas of life, she has brought us music about anxiety, frustration, fear, angst and acceptance. A regular on Nexus Music Blog, we have featured Karen several times; however, we are not the only ones singing her praises. Featured on The Other Side Reviews, Sinusoidal Music, Front View Magazine and various playlists, she is captivating audiences all over the globe. The latest addition to her repertoire is ‘Til The Ocean Meets The Shore’.

Hot on the heels of her well-received track ‘I’ve Got A Secret’, the Australian songstress brings listeners a soothing brand of indie-folk in ‘Til The Ocean Meets The Shore’. Soft, smooth and gentle, the single is simplistic with a purely acoustic-inspired arrangement. The heart-warming arrangement incorporates Karen’s guitar skills with an interspersed piano, as well as her tender vocals. What I love about acoustic tracks is how the minimalist soundscape can touch a person’s heart more than any “bells and whistles” track – Karen Harding is an expert at this.

In ‘I’ve Got A Secret’, Karen touched on fear, anxiety and despair; however, she steps away from these concepts in ‘Til The Ocean Meets The Shore’. Deeply reflective, ‘Til The Ocean Meets The Shore’ deconstructs those painful emotions and looks at coping with them instead of feeling them. She explains that this track “…dives into challenges felt and a realisation of how far we have come, and the determination that we can truly achieve anything we put our mind to if we do not give in.”

One of the four-track EP I’ve Got A Secret, ‘Til The Ocean Meets The Shore’ is a sentimental, sincere and genuine song that can strike a chord with any listener. I cannot wait for the next track from Karen Harding.
